Bradley's Tips: Where to get your new dog (A guide in finding a responsible breeder)

Thinking of adding a new puppy to your family?

First of all please remember that getting a new family member means committing to it for the rest of it's life (which is approx 15 years). Please be sure you are ready to handle your new puppy and fulfill it's needs (premium food, emotional well being, vet check-ups, maintenance). The biggest step is finding the right place to get your new family member.

A Pet-Shop is always a NO-NO (it's the worst place to get a new pup!) these shops usually get puppies who are not ready to be separated with mom. These shops only care about the profit and not the puppies they sell & usually get them from breeders who do not have proper knowledge as well. The puppies will usually die on the first week they are home since they are not properly vaccinated and if they survive they will usually have major health issues in the long run.

Irresponsible breeders and Commercial breeders is another NO because these are the ones who treat their dogs as "items" (Indicators of such are "SWAPPING or TRADING" of pets in ads). They have many litters and they are usually on the rush on selling their puppies. They usually vaccinate their puppies themselves not having proper knowledge on handling these vaccines properly. They don't give proper nutrition and do not socialize their puppies well. A lot of these breeders are posting their ads in popular sites (so you should know how to distinguish breeders).

Responsible and Ethical breeders are the one you should look for. These are the breeders who truly love their pets and usually will provide a "guarantee of health". They only allow licensed professional vets to vaccinate their puppies and you will notice that their puppies are well-socialized (happy to see visitors and not scared to be touched). They are willing to show you the parents and the environment(which should always be clean and well ventilated) where the puppies grew up. They usually disclose any issues that the puppy has.

GUIDE QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD ASK BREEDERS:
  • What is your goal/purpose in breeding? (e.g. why did you breed this litter?)
  • Is the puppy healthy who gave the vaccinations? (Ask to show you the medical records ask for the vet's name and contact number and confirm)
  • Are you willing to Guarantee the health of the puppy (at least 2 weeks for parvo/distemper virus?)
  • Are there any health issues I should know? Genetic disease that may be passed on? (ask for a brief health history)
  • Ask to see the parents (if the dad is not available ask to see the mother)

Goodbye Ninang Lizzie :'(

I was so shock to hear the very sad news from my human mother K, apparently my beloved Ninang Liza Lapuz (donalfonso kennels) passed away on friday May 7 2010. K was as shocked as I am because they were just exchanging PM's before she passed. :(

My Ninang Lizzie is such a kind hearted person, she always has a smile on her face that can lighten up your day as soon as you are with her. She never passed bad "first time impression" judgment on people and she treated everyone like her friend. We have only known Ninang Liz on 2008 but our friendship seemed to be like it was forever. K would always tell me that Ninang would always ask how I was doing (and the rest of our family) and that she would always wish me well that's just how Ninang is so sweet and thoughtful. K remembers the night her beloved milkdrops died and left 2 orphan puppies behind, K was so sad with her and then recommended she bring the pups to a center for puppies. The puppies now known as Jerky and Pupcorn became beautiful healthy dogs with Ninang's patience and love. Ninang gave a gift to the foster mom of her pups (a chihuahua) the day she took them back. She didn't need to give the foster mom a gift, but she did just proves how really sweet, kind and thoughtful person she is. She never failed to give small thoughtful gifts to the people she loved or her canine buddies!
She loved coffee and hanging out just talking with friends, she loves spending time with friends.
I remember her starbucks love, she had named most of her dogs with her favorite drinks and food. She would also name her dogs with her favorite things and sometimes her favorite cartoons too. She was young at heart (looked very young for her age too!!). Manang when she met Ninang thought she was still in her early 30's and never thought she had kids in Highschool. Ninang was also the best mom to her two sons, K would tell me how close Ninang was with her two boys she and her younger son would always go out with her & the dogs, and she would always include them in her stories. She was a great and cool mom (and not an ultra conservative mom, the right dosage of coolness & discipline ) she would make sure she and her sons are bonded. Ninang is also a very supportive person, K told me that they got close when Ninang asked and trusted K to do her website design, K was flattered because she didn't knew how to design then but Ninang would always encourage K and always tell her that she loved K's designs. This made K want to do her website better (and always offer new designs and excited to show them to her). Ninang was a true dog lover, she had a gang of doggies who are spoiled and sweet like her because she would spend a lot on their treats to keep them happy! Her dogs were very lucky because each of them would get to spend an "outing/activity" in every weekend. She only wants the best for her dogs and loved them like her second children. She was truly a well loved person by many friends, family and second family (her dogs)

K will miss you so much :( We love you Ninang!!!!

Please guys, say a little prayer for my Ninang and to those who she left (Her sons, husband, mother and sister). She have left us to early :'-( Ninang, may you be with God, You will be reunited with your Dad, Brother & your loved furkids Kipper and Milkdrops

Please take time to visit her website http://donalfonso.multiply.com and put a note on her guestbook if you knew her. I know this would mean a lot to her

Remembering Kuya Chico's (3rd) birthday.

On May 5th my human K always gets sentimental..and she always tells me it's because May 5th is my Kuya Chico's birthday. This year 2009, he was supposedly to be 3 years old.. my human K would always tell me stories about what kind of the dog he was..my human K would always tell me endless stories about his adventures from the 4 months he was with her.

I remember particularly that whenever K gets home, Kuya Chico is always waiting for her on the top of the stairs always soo excited to meet her, he never fails to greet her when she gets home. He is always there at the stairs waiting, waiting.. When he was alive he would always stay at K's room whenever K was away

Kuya Chico pictured above. :-)

HAPPY 3rd birthday Kuya...We always miss you here, and we try our best to make you proud

Love,
Brad and the rest of the gang :)
